Evening Social – June 13, 2022
(Free, sign up here)
“Meet me at the Forks” is a phrase that locals use to refer to a place that has been in use for over 6,000 years. Initially it was a place where trade took place by Indigenous peoples, the Europeans and Scottish settlers, railway pioneers and tens of thousands of immigrants. Transformation of this historic area from abandoned railyard into The Forks as we know it today was purposely developed into a special and distinct all-season gathering place.
On the way to The Forks….
Join local hosts on an informative walk from The Fairmont Hotel Winnipeg to The Forks National Historic Site, highlighting historical, cultural and architectural significance of the area adjacent to the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
At the Forks…
Embark on a private shopping experience for all CES attendees at The Forks Trading Company from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. where you can buy a little piece of Winnipeg and sample food and other products by local Winnipeg Makers.
(Optional, cost $)
Enjoy a three-course meal and the company of your CES colleagues at Winnipeg’s Old Spaghetti Factory in the historic Johnston Terminal building at The Forks. Space is limited, book your ticket soon!
Following dinner explore the Forks Market Building, Commons and Plaza. Take a stroll to the historic railway bridge to the “Eatern Island” of The Forks, home to many significant Indigenous sites, and new works if public art by Indigenous artists.
